Leo Aguirre
Leo Aguirre is a writer and director. With the intention of exploring poetic, textural, and prismatic storytelling with craft, he strives to push concepts through nuanced creative approaches.
Growing up along the US-Mexico border and spending his formative years in the Caribbean has heavily influenced his desire to create work that defies style or categorization. After studying film and communication studies at the University of Texas at Austin, he worked as a photographer, cinematographer, and editor before fully transitioning to directing.
His work has been recognized internationally, with film and photography projects spanning styles and themes across the commercial, music video, and narrative landscape. His kaleidoscopic exploration of biculturalism along the US-Mexico border, "No Somos De Aquí, Ni Somos De Allá” (We Are Not From Here, Nor There), earned him global recognition and launched his directing career in the advertising space. Since then, he has collaborated with some of the world's largest brands on global campaigns and has garnered recognition from the Cannes Young Director Awards, Ciclope Festival, the ADC, the 1.4 Awards, and was selected as a recipient of the Young Guns Award in 2020. In 2022, he represented Mexico at the Asian Art Biennale in Bangladesh with his photographic work.
He is deeply inspired by acts of kindness and compassion, and believes in the power of filmmaking to create empathy. Leo is currently developing his debut feature film.
