John Dower
Capturing some of the world's most legendary sporting heroes on film from Bradley Wiggins to Joe Fraser, John Dower’s documentary approach finds cinematic harmony between challenging narratives and beautiful, unexpected images.
John bought one of the first handheld digital cameras thanks to an office sweepstake, a tip on the Grand National and an eagerness to find his own method of storytelling. Drawn to the weirdly wonderful aspects of who we are whether commercial, documentary or narrative film; John strives for authenticity in the characters and stories he encounters on screen.
His feature Thriller in Manila was in competition at Sundance, BAFTA and Emmy nominated and won a Grierson and Peabody award. Bradley Wiggins – A Year In Yellow was also BAFTA nominated in the Best Director category. John co-wrote My Scientology Movie topping a million pounds at the UK box office and was the highest grossing documentary in its year of release. Alongside his documentary work John has directed commercial campaigns for The Co-operative Bank, Not On The High Street and Omega, as well as spots for Sky HD, Aviva, Mars and Vodafone. He directed the Netflix series Sophie: A Murder in West Cork and The Mystery of D.B. Cooper for HBO.
