Hector Aponysus

From capturing Obongjayar performing in front of his family for the first time in his childhood home – which won an UKMVA in 2022 – to tracking down teenage cliff divers in Marseille in Plongeurs (Official Selection Hot Docs 2025, Bronze for short film at Ciclope 2024); Hector Aponysus is drawn to capturing the energy and spirit of people who find creative ways to exist in the world.

Hector studied art history at UCL before assisting an artist-filmmaker, where he first became involved in making films. In his documentary short Makina! (2020) made in collaboration with Boiler Room 4:3 and The British Council, he follows the history (both present and past) of a North East rave scene, born out of working class life and told by the people themselves. In Plongeurs (HotDocs 2025) he immersed himself in the world of Marseille’s cliff diving community, uncovering a tender story not only about adrenaline, but also a sensitive exploration of masculinity, freedom and fearlessness on the margins of French society.

Hector’s branded documentary ‘To Chase A Dream’ – co-directed with Park’s J.M. Harper as part of the ‘Dream On’ series for On Running – won Bronze at the Clio Sports Awards, was shortlisted for the British Arrows 2025, the Shots ‘Ad of the Year: Direction’ Award, the Kinsale Shark Awards and the 1.4 Awards. His music video – ‘Blurry’ Petite Noir ft. Sampa The Great –- was featured on Eye Candy and won Bronze at the Creative Circle Awards and was shortlisted for the Kinsale Shark Awards 2024. Hector’s other clients include Converse, Birkenstock, Under Armour, Asics and Boiler Room and he works as a creative director for a number of editorial platforms and fashion labels.
