AG Rojas

AG Rojas captures his deeply layered subjects in a divine light – at the intersection of community, architecture and spirituality. With a focus on those with a marginalized experience, Rojas tells stories that need to be told with sensitivity, beauty and an element of magic realism.

After traveling the world with his parents – a Colombian writer and a Costa Rican painter – Rojas moved to Los Angeles permanently aged eight and began directing music videos after dropping out of Art Center College of Design aged 17. He has collaborated with the likes of Earl Sweatshirt – for his very first music video ‘EARL’ – and Gil Scott-Heron – for his very last music video, ‘I’ll Take Care of You’ – as well as others including Jack White, Spiritualized, Run The Jewels 'Close Your Eyes (And Count to Fuck' feat. Zack de la Rocha), Florence + The Machine, and Kamasi Washington (notably for a 30 minute audio visual installation entitled ‘Harmony of Difference’ for the Whitney Biennial).

His personal work is amorphous and transcendent – whether he’s curating a doc series Tribute for Dazed to uplift the voices of other young directors or working with the Smithsonian Institute on installation ‘Godchild’, which centers around the massive cultural contributions by Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and John Coltrane, and has now been invited to many museums in the US. His commercial work takes the same spirit, values and visual excellence to clients like Nike, Apple Adidas, Allianz, Coca Cola and many more to create authentic, moving and groundbreaking projects – earning him a nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement by the DGA in 2017.
